Joyce Dallas MacCurdy Fashbaugh, 92, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Waterford of Virginia Beach. She was born July 15, 1924, in Boston. Joyce was raised by her two loving grandmothers, ‘Nana’ MacCurdy and Mary Dallas.

Joyce was very caring and compassionate, which naturally led her to becoming a registered nurse. She was a nurse in Boston, Mass., Amos Cottage for children, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tidewater Psychiatric Institute, Norfolk, Va.

She married Howard Dilts Fashbaugh on Dec. 25, 1946. They moved to Midland, Mich., in 1952, where they raised their children and were active in many civic activities. Joyce was a president of the board for the King’s Daughters Home in Midland. In 1972, Joyce and her husband moved to the Tidewater area for a job opportunity and their mutual attraction to the ocean.

Joyce’s greatest joy was her family. She lovingly doted on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She selflessly gave of herself, whatever she could, to help her family. Joyce was sweet and kind to friends and anyone she encountered. All who knew her will dearly miss her.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, on Feb. 26, 1999, and her daughter, Evelyn Joyce, in 1947.

Joyce is survived by her children, James Howard Fashbaugh (Jacque Keiser), Linda Fashbaugh Johnson and Patricia Lee Johnson (Kenneth); grandchildren, Lisa Davis (Nate), Christopher Turney (Scott VanVleet), Austin Johnson and Santiago Fashbaugh; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jillian, Juliet and Luke. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Richard Fashbaugh (Marilyn); and very special friend, Leonard Edelstein.

Services for Joyce will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, P.O. Box 2156, Norfolk, VA 23501-2156.
