Pedestrian hit by car Wednesday afternoon in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH — A pedestrian was critically injured after being hit by a car Wednesday, according to the city’s police department.

The crash, which was reported at 11:52 a.m., happened in the 1800 block General Booth Boulevard. Authorities took the man to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian stepped in front of a moving pickup truck’s path. The truck driver stayed on scene to assist with other vehicles that stopped after the incident, according to police.

The pedestrian has not yet been identified.

The southbound road on General Booth Boulevard between Las Cruces Drive and Culver Lane was closed until shortly after 2 p.m., according to police.
