Kathleen Diane Foreman Hassen, 61, passed peacefully Friday, March 10, 2017, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Kathleen was born in Princess Anne County and had remained a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach. After graduating from Kempsville High School and Tidewater Community College, Kathleen began work in the City Manager’s Office of the City of Virginia Beach. During her 39 ½ year tenure with the city, she completed her undergraduate at Old Dominion University in Business Administration. She served as the assistant to the city manager for Community Affairs, where she assisted the mayor, members of city council, the city manager, staff and citizens to find solutions to their concerns about the services provided by local government.
Kathleen is the daughter of Betty Jean Foreman Helton and Leslie Foreman. She leaves behind her mother, Ms. Helton; husband of 36 years, Charlie; two loving daughters, Lesley Hassen of Manassas and Paige Hassen of Virginia Beach; sister, Norma Andes, and her husband, Bob, of Carrsville and their two children, Rose Andes and Don Andes, will also miss her; and brother, David Foreman, and his children, Jena Foreman, Devin Foreman and Garrett Hart (stepson) are also mourning our loss.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel, for visitation. A memorial service will also be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Princess Anne Chapel.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be given to either Parklawn Elementary School, 4116 Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22312; or to a local animal shelter.
