Robert L. Quinn, 81, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017. Born in South Norfolk, Bob was an Eagle Scout, athlete and 1954 graduate of Norview High School. He lived the last 30 years in Princess Anne County, Virginia Beach.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Katherine H. Quinn; parents, Corrie Louise Johnson and Earl Vincent Quinn; and stepfather, Hosea Eldridge.
Bob’s service in the U.S. Navy included a deployment on the USS Ranger (CVA-61), and he retired from the USN Reserves as a chief personnelman 1995. He worked 35 years in civil service, retiring as director of finance NAVENGCOM LANTDIV in 1990.
Bob was a Master Mason 32 Degree with Princess Anne Lodge No. 25 and was previously with Bayside Lodge No. 218. Bob was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, donating time in many capacities including senior and junior warden, treasurer, vestry member and bazaar chairman. In his later years, he also spent time with the fellowship of St. John’s Baptist Church.
Bob was generous with his time, his friendship, his humor and his stories. He will be sincerely missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Leslie K. Quinn Rawls, and her husband, Jason; uncle, James Johnson, and Karen Coleman King.
Respects may be paid from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday March 16, at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 509 S. Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach. Interment will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park. Masonic funeral rites will be held at the graveside.
