Evelyn Rocker Hardee, 96, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017.

Evelyn was a loving, generous person, always committed to others. Born in Metter, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Albert Herman Rocker Sr. and Lavernia Fordham. She was the widow of Leon Alton Hardee, to whom she was married for 60 years.

Evelyn retired from the Norfolk City Public Schools after 32 years as a dedicated teacher. She served in many organizations including the Norfolk Association of Classroom Teachers, PEO Chapter AK, ODU Town-N-Gown and the District L. Retired Teachers Association.

She was a founding member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and a longtime member of McKendree United Methodist Church, where she organized Senior Celebration. She was active in United Methodist Women, Church Women United, and The Auxiliary Gideons International. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Delta Kappa, American Association of University Women and the Woman’s Club of Norfolk.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Gary Pridgen of Farmville, Va., and Jean and Christopher Drake of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, JoEllen Pridgen of Orlando, Fla., Stephanie Pridgen Low, and her husband, Thomas Low, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Cameron Drake and Elizabeth Drake of Atlanta, Ga.; and three great-grandsons, Nicholas, James and Leo Low.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
