NORFOLK – Mayor Kenny Alexander announced on Wednesday that Optima Health will open an office in the city.
In what was formerly a J.C. Penney retail store located at 880 North Military Hwy., the company’s new office will add up to 200 jobs to the local workforce.
“We are proud that Norfolk continues as a leader in job growth and attracting outstanding and dynamic companies. We are excited to welcome Optima Health to Norfolk. Team Norfolk deserves credit for being nimble and innovative in attracting Optima to this site.” Alexander said in a news release. “Let’s continue our momentum as a leader in job growth across the Hampton Roads region.”
According to the release, the city purchased the retail space three years ago in an effort to transform “an area located at the crossroads of the region.” An $18 million investment from the city to renovate the space has allowed for Optima Health, as well as Movement Mortgage, to operate new offices in 135,000 square feet.
“The Military Circle location was perfect for our needs,” said Michael M. Dudley, president and chief executive officer of Optima Health, in the release. “The City of Norfolk offered us the ability to place our entire customer service team on one floor, they were willing to work quickly so we could get in the space immediately and the location is centrally located allowing us to maximize our recruiting efforts.”
