Agatha ‘Gay’ Strickland Forlines, 90, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, March 5, 2017.

Born on March 14, 1926, to the late Mamie Tudor and Alvie Griggs Strickland and raised in North Carolina, she was a 1947 graduate of Women’s College (UNC-G).

Gay raised her family in Virginia Beach and was a longtime educator. She loved the beach and vacationing with her family, sewing and playing Bridge with friends.

Gay was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Julian Howell Forlines.

Gay is survived by her children, Pam Stovall (Brack) and Mark Forlines (Carol Ann); grandchildren, Scott Stovall (Auburn), Julie Stovall, Jenny Polm (Jason) and Blair, Blake, Dylan and Dane Forlines; and great-grandchildren, Ava and Julian Stovall and Luke and Natalie Polm; and sister and brother-in-law, Lena and Gene Bingham of Winston Salem, N.C.

The family would like to thank Della Mary Trent, Alfreda Hatcher and Sherry Hatcher and Hospice of Virginia for their loving and compassionate care of our mom.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home with a private service to follow in the chapel of Serenity Mausoleum.
