Sally Miller Edwards, 77, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, March 4, 2017.
A native of Roanoke, Va., she attended Andrew Lewis High School (’57) and Southern Seminary.
Sally thrived working in the administrative side of medicine, managing several medical practices, and later becoming the director of admissions at Tidewater Psychiatric Institute. While working in Jacksonville, Fla., she met her future husband, Richard F. Edwards, a naval aviator. They were married March 4, 1961, at the NAS Jacksonville Protestant Chapel.
They raised three wonderful children, Richard Jr., Andrew and Kelly. She was surrounded by her husband and children to comfort her in her final hours. Rich had asked Sally to please stay until their 56th wedding anniversary. We believe it was her final gift to him. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond Reeves Miller Jr., and his wife, Inez. Sally introduced Rich’s brother, Charles, to his wife of 50 years, Janice. Sally was loved by everyone who met her, and many of the children’s friends considered her their second mother.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, 1457 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach. The family will receive guests from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Condolences may be offered to the family at hollomon-brown.com.
