It is with great sadness we mourn the death of Alma Johnson Halstead. She was born Feb. 8, 1917, and died March 1, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Philip W. Halstead.

She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Elaine Garrett, and her husband, Roy, and Stacy Kratz, and her husband, Jason; two grandsons, Jason Garrett and Blaine Kratz; two nieces she helped raise, Lea Colonna and Diane Bunnell; and many nieces, nephews, great-nephews and one great-great-nephew.

Alma’s loves in life were reading, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch and Ocean View Beach with a book.

Alma’s life was honored last month at her 100th birthday party, where many gathered. She excitedly helped raise her grandson, Jason; and great-nephew, Jett Colonna. Alma’s comment at the party was, “I’m glad I had the strength to do it.” Obviously, Alma’s legacy to us all is love of family. She will surely be missed!

Our thanks to all of the staff at Our Lady of Perpetual Help for 13 years of devoted care, and, recently, hospice.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Condolences may be expressed to the family at hollomon-brown.com.
