Carol Fernandes Picotto Cossette, 91, was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and left this life Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017.
Carol came to the Tidewater area in the 1950s as a young mother and wife to Manuel Prazeres. She later was married to Robert ‘Bob’ Williamson, and then Verne Cossette. She worked at the Monticello Hotel as an auditor and volunteered for the American Red Cross.
She was a member of the Diamond Springs Civic League, holding all of the offices at different times. She enjoyed camping, Bingo and casino trips. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Carol is survived by her sister, Angelina Rocha of New York City; children, Jeanne (Frank) Clements, Manuel (Wanda) Prazeres, John (Debra) Prazeres, Allen ‘A.J.’ (Sarah) Williamson, Warren (Rose) Williamson and Tina (Bruce) Chandler; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; and her companion, Richard Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach.
