Jane Harrison Garriott, 70, teacher who passionately believed in the importance of education

Jane Harrison Garriott, 70, of Virginia Beach, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, after an unexpected brain aneurysm. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Harrison Jr. and Virginia Hey Harrison.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 47 years, Micheal Huntley Garriott; children, Elizabeth Garriott Hearle and Micheal Huntley Garriott Jr.; brother, William Henry Harrison III; and many other family members and friends. The light of her life were her six grandchildren, Alexa, John and Hudson Hearle and Taylor, Jesse and Morgan Garriott.

Jane graduated from Princess Anne High School and Mary Washington College. After earning a master’s degree, she spent almost 30 years in education, finishing her career at Old Donation Center for the Gifted and Talented as a teacher and a gifted testing specialist. She believed passionately in the importance of education and passed that love of learning on to her children and grandchildren. She treasured her multitude of friends in her neighborhood, her bridge groups, her book clubs, and her church.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Campaign Fund at Old Donation Episcopal Church.
