Jose Lelay Salonga Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at his home.
Born in Manila, Philippines, he was the son of the late Jose and Gloria Salonga. He retired as a master chief petty officer from the U.S. Navy after 31 years of service. He was a veteran of Vietnam, Iraq, and Iran and also served as command master chief at NAS Oceana as his final duty station. He was a member of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, Victory Daylight Masonic Lodge No. 1778, a Khedive Shriner, and former chairman of Travelers Hampton Roads.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Emelita M. Salonga; two daughters, Jolette Salonga of Houston, and Jomellie Salonga of San Diego; son, Joseph Leo Salonga III, and his wife, Erin, of Virginia Beach; grandson, Hudson Joseph; two sisters, Genie and Linda; two brothers, Alex and Vic; and a lot of extended family members.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kemspville Chapel Wednesday, Feb. 22, and Thursday, Feb. 23, from 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
