Annette G. Ahern, 88, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017.

Born in Philadelphia to Italian immigrants, Annette lived much of her life in Hartford, Conn., where she worked as a legal secretary in the State of Connecticut Tax Dept. Subsequently she relocated to Richmond, Va., where she worked as an executive secretary in the state Department of Corrections. Upon retiring, she moved to Virginia Beach to be closer to her grandchildren.

She is survived by her brother, John Galli (Jeanne); half-brother, Fred Galli (Heather); daughter, Kathleen Ahern; sons, Jon Ahern (Sheryl) and Brian Ahern; grandchildren, Justin and Amelia Simko, Brendan Ahern and Emily Ahern Wareing; and great-granddaughters, Harper-Mae and Tipper-Nell Wareing.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Shyla Barrientos and Nancy Ornillo, who provided compassionate hospice care to Annette, and to her hospice nurse, Kathy O’Brien, for her friendship, support and weekly nursing visits to insure Annette’s well-being. Her family will never forget all that they did for their mother.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Westhampton Cemetery Chapel, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond. Woody Funeral Home-Parham will be assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
