VIRGINIA BEACH – If you’re curious about Old Donation School’s new state-of-the-art building, you can take a tour on Wednesday night.

Starting at 5:45 p.m., guests can walk the halls of the school’s new 225,000-square-foot school, located at 4633 Honeygrove Road.

At 7 p.m., the seventh and eighth grade orchestra, with guest appearances by the Bayside High School Advanced Orchestra and the Landstown High School Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform a free concert.

Due to the building’s sustainability features, ODS is on target for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Schools Gold Certification. Those features which will be demonstrated during the tour. Through the use of windows, more than 75 percent of the school’s interior spaces are lit via sunlight. Water used for the school is reduced with rainwater captured on school grounds and reused for irrigation and flushing toilets in the building.

Officials said that the school can also serve as a Category II hurricane shelter.

Guests are also invited to tour the school at similar events throughout the spring. All events are free and open to the public, with the exception of the school’s spring musical performance, May 12 and 13.
