John Alphonso White, 70, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, in Elkins Park, Pa. He was born Dec. 20, 1946, to the late Elnora White and James Sumner in Princess Anne County, Va.

John attended Union Kempsville High School, where he played football. He enjoyed watching football and baseball and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Addeline Burress.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Avis Middleton (Terrence) and Blair Copeland; one son, Jamal Rogers; four sisters, Delois Lewis (Ralph), Phyllis Gatlin, Mary Creekmore and Mynita Busbee; four brothers, Larry Foreman, Andrew Sumner, Morey “Pete” Williams and Myron Barnes (Trina); eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Beach Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., 4456 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at New Jerusalem COGIC, 118 Bishop Thoroughgood Ave., Virginia Beach. Interment will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach.
