NORFOLK – A real estate tax relief program aimed to provide assistance to seniors and disabled residents is now accepting applications.
Any eligible Norfolk homeowner may apply for the program. Residents must be either 65 or older, or totally and permanently disabled. All residents must live in the property on the application. The combined income of the property owners and any relatives living in the home cannot exceed $67,000 per year, and their net worth can not be more than $350,000, excluding the home’s value.
Tax relief will be provided as an exemption or deferral up to an average assessment of about $203,000. Any taxes over that average must be paid by the owner.
The city’s department of human resources will assist applicants with the required paperwork at community meetings. Applications for the program can be submitted through June 1.
