Ethel Mae Dozier, 84, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, in Virginia Beach. Born on April 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Rev. John and Gussie Everett.

Ethel Mae Dozier was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dozier.

Ethel attended Nansmond County Training School, where she graduated on June 5, 1950, as class valedictorian. She moved to Virginia Beach in the early 1950’s, where she met and married the late Clarence Eugene Dozier. From this union, nine children were born.

Ethel retired from Virginia Beach City Public Schools in 1999 where she worked for 30 years. She came out of retirement and continued to work at Bayside High School as a substitute worker. She had attended piano school and worked at the food bank helping the community. She was a member of Apostolic Faith Church, where she was know as the “Church Mother.”

Ethel Mae Dozier leaves to cherish her memory her children, Darnell Dozier, Carol White (Roselle), Shirley Alexander (Joe), Judy Huff, Jackie Cornick (Kenneth), Debra Dozier, Ruth Rouse and Shiela Dozier; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and dear friends.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
