CHESAPEAKE — The South Norfolk Jordan Bridge wants to donate 500 pounds of food to the Oasis Social Ministry in Portsmouth, and is giving the community an incentive to help.
The SNJB is a privately funded bridge that connects Chesapeake and Portsmouth across the Elizabeth River. Donating five or more cans of food or non-perishable items can get one person $10 worth of E-Z Pass credit. The credit would be available for immediate use, according to a press release.
The Oasis Social Ministry aims to assist the homeless and less fortunate through comprehensive services in Portsmouth, Western Chesapeake and Northern Suffolk, according to the release.
“This annual event underscores our core philosophy of reconnecting communities,” Kevin Crum, SNJB general manager said in a release. “In this spirit, we are excited to help the community support the good work of Oasis Social Ministry and its volunteer corps.”
The SNJB’s third annual commuters care food drive began Feb. 1 and will last throughout the month. People can drop their donations off at the SNJB operations office, 3815 Bainbridge Blvd., on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
