A Virginia Beach man died in a Florida dirt bike accident last month, the local sheriff’s department said.

Around 6 p.m. on Jan. 31, 26-year-old Alan Powell, of the 4300 block of Foreman Trail in Virginia Beach, was riding a dirt bike in the 13300 block of McCormick Road in Jacksonville when he struck an oncoming vehicle making a left-hand turn at an intersection.

Powell was riding a non-street-legal dirt bike at excessive speeds through a red traffic light at the time of the collision, according to police.

Powell was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
