Oceanfront fire displaces three Thursday

Three people were displaced from their homes after a fire broke out at an apartment on the Oceanfront Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to an apartment building on 56th Street around 2:45 p.m. after a neighbor noticed smoke and flames coming from a second story unit, according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department.

The woman living in the apartment below the fire escaped her home. The two women who lived in the upstars unit weren’t home at the time of the fire.

The upstairs unit was damaged by smoke throughout and by smoke and fire in a back bedroom. The downstairs unit was damaged by water, according to the VBFD.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
