Princess Anne Middle School and Woodstock Elementary earned a National Parent Teacher Association School of Excellence designation. 173 schools were awarded the designation in the United States, with 14 in Virginia, according to a Virginia Beach City Public Schools news release.

The award recognizes and supports partnerships between schools and the PTA  to “enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.”

Schools qualify when a survey series finds that families are highly engaged with the school or the PTA determines it has improved families’ perception since the beginning of the school year, according to the news release.

“Through both research and our day-to-day work with students, we know that one of the key indicators of a child’s academic success is parental involvement,” said Aaron Spence, VBCPS superintendent. “I am so proud to have both Woodstock and Princess Anne honored with this designation as it is proof of the value placed on partnering our schools and families to best support our students.”
