Archer Barrett Crittenden, (AB), 78, passed away in his home early on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016.
Archer B. Crittenden was born on March 13, 1938, to Richard and Elsie Crittenden of Dewitt, Va. The second of four boys, John, Archer, Hugh and Bill, each overcame early hardship to create fulfilling lives for themselves.
A man of humble beginnings and an ironclad will, Archer proudly served with the Virginia National Guard before founding Crittenden Adjustment Company in 1971 which, through his hard work and dedication, granted him and his family success and opportunity. He was a member of the Organization of Flying Adjusters (OFA), a life member of the Hampton Roads Claims Association, life member of the VA State Claims Association, and a member of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters (NAIIA). He loved his family, traveling, fishing, and flying.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Crittenden of Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers, Hugh Crittenden of Petersburg, Va., and Bill Crittenden of Lynchburg, Va.; daughter, Wanda (Paul) Robinson of North Carolina; grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Wright and William (Amie) Strattner; great-grandchildren, Marin and Travis Wright and Isaac Strattner; son, Ed (Janie) Crittenden of Fort Myers, Fla.; grandchildren, Adam Crittenden and Aaron (Sarah) Crittenden; son, Chris (Amie) Davis of Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Wil and Carol Ann Davis; daughter, Melissa (Lee) Simpson of Knotts Island, N.C.; grandchildren, Zack Hedrick, Hunter Benson, Spencer Simpson and Henry Simpson II.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, located at 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. Interment will take place later that day at 2 p.m. in Blandford Cemetery located at 319 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23803.
