Richard Jackson Cunningham, 82, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, on what was supposed to be a joyous 60th anniversary with his beloved wife Laura Cunningham. The lord had different plans.

Richard was born October 19, 1934, in West Union, W.Va. He was the only child of Paul and Lessie Cunningham.

He lived an adventurous life and was always eager to work, learn and teach. After being in the Marine Corps, he then married his wife, Laura Robinson, in 1960. He provided for his family with countless of jobs and skills. He worked in nursing homes with his mother in Nebraska, then worked as maintenance man for a hospital in California, and finally opened his own business in the plumbing field which was successful for 20 plus years in California.

He eventually moved to Virginia Beach in 1999, where he worked until retiring in 2011.

While being a workaholic, he also had a growing family of five kids. He is survived by his oldest daughter, Robin LeMesurier; his oldest son, Richard Cunningham; his youngest son, Paul; and his daughter-in-law, Michelle Cunningham. He had countless of grandchildren and great-grandchildren all over the country with five of them with him the day of his transition.

He is preceded into his transition by parents, Paul and Lessie; two daughters, Kim Wimberly and Kellie Best, both of whom passed in the last 18 months; and his grandson, Nathan.

There will be a private memorial service for Richard held at the Cunningham residence.
