Hans W. Meyer, 89, enjoyed flying different types of aircraft

Hans W. Meyer, 89, passed away on Nov. 19, 2016. Born in Germany, he was a retired mechanical engineer.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife of 53 years, Waltraud E. Meyer; and son, Dirk Meyer, and his wife, Grace, of Jacksonville, Fla. He was also survived by family members in Germany.

Hans had a love of flying from an early age and began flying gliders at the age of 14. He progressed to powered-engine aircraft at the age of 17. Hans has enjoyed flying different types of aircraft throughout his whole life.

A memorial service for Hans Meyer will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at New Apostolic Church, located at 7746 Leafwood Drive, Norfolk. Friends and family are cordially invited to a reception following the service at 1269 Belvoir Lane in Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Apostolic Church, Military Aviation Museum or to the charity of your choice.
