With more than 500 Christmas tree farms and 7 million trees growing across the state, Virginia ranks 7th in the U.S. for its number of harvested trees, 8th in dedicated tree farm acres, and 9th in total Christmas tree retailers, according to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences.
This year, the Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association estimates holiday tree sales will surpass $40 million, and the governor’s proclamation was delivered to acknowledge the positive impact growers are making on the local economy.
Virginia’s moderate weather and rich lands offer an optimal setting for the growth of many types Christmas trees, including white pine, blue spruce, Scotch pine, Norway, Fraser fir, and Douglas fir.
