Rather than turning in to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade this Thursday morning, several hundred community members have committed to running in the 6th annual Charlie Normile Turkey Trot 5k.
Though Charlie Normile passed away in 2011 at the age of two, he continues to inspire families across Hampton Roads. This year the race, which is ran to honor Charlie, will donate its proceeds to the Navy SEAL Foundation and the Noblemen of Virginia Beach.
Participants in this year’s races are encouraged to wear their best race-day costumes and bring new, unwrapped toys for donation to the Nobleman toy drive.
Some new additions that participants can look forward to include an open air tent and photo booth for runners to capture memories of the race in retro photo strips.
This year also features an array of raffle and costume prizes, from wine and bakery items to gift certificates and desserts.
Runners also have the opportunity to grab some short-sleeved race shirts.
Klar Voorhees Orthodontics, which is sponsoring the race for the 6th year in a row, is also joined by One Life Fitness, the Fraim Family Foundation, the Rudee Inlet Jetski Family, and the Parkers in supporting the event.
Several races will be held Thursday, including a 5k “Turkey Trot,” a one mile fun run/canine run, and a “50-Meter Gobble Wobble” for runners 5 years or younger.
