The Virginia Beach Public Library system is offering free events in December for the public to attend and participate, though some require an RSVP. Click here to register for them.

Bayside Special Services Library | 936 Independence Blvd.

Holiday karaoke – Dec. 15 from 5-6:30 p.m.

Sing the holiday classics at an event open to all ages. Registration is required to participate.

Gingerbread house competition – Dec. 17 from 2-3 p.m.

Compete on a team against others for a prize. This event is open to all ages and registration is required to participate.

Meyera Oberndorf Central Library | 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd.

Holidays around the world – Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

From visiting Santa to games of Dreidel, Expect and explosion of multicultural holiday traditions to take over this event. There will be diverse cuisine, teens can create ornaments with a 3D pen and children can craft while adults can learn to perfect gift wrapping. This event is open to all ages and doesn’t require registration.

Noon Year’s Eve – Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon

Ring in 2017 early with crafts, activities and a special countdown at noon. This event is open to all ages and doesn’t require registration.

Holiday Craft with Kim Herman – Dec. 10 from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Create custom holiday art for yourself or as a gift with Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art instructor Kim Herman. This event requires registration and is open to kids in grades six through 12.

Teen DIY: book page ornaments – Dec. 11 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Learn to create book page ornaments as a gift to yourself, a loved one or an enemy. This even requires registration and is open to kids in grades six through 12.

A gingerbread holiday – Dec. 17 from 2-3 p.m.

Get in the holiday spirit by watching puppets tell stories while making crafts. This event requires registration and is open to children ages three to five.

Pungo-Blackwater Library | 916 Princess Anne Rd.

Holiday card and gift tag making – Dec. 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Create two custom holiday cards and three gift tags using card making techniques like stamping, punching and die cutting. This event is open to adults only and requires registration.

Candle Light Story Time – Dec. 15 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Teen library volunteers read holiday stories to children, who are invited to wear pajamas. This event is open to children ages three to 10 and requires registration.
