Robert Joseph Kennedy, 87, served in the Navy for 30 years

Robert Joseph Kennedy, YNCM, USN (Ret), 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones and was reunited with his parents, eleven siblings, and beloved son, Robert, in the arms of the Lord on November 13, 2016.

Mr. Kennedy was born in Scranton, Pa. to John and Anne Kennedy. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, where he excelled scholastically and in sports. He was the captain of the basketball team, leading them to a state championship. During that time he began dating the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Rosemarie Ritter. Robert proudly served 30 years in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. After his retirement, he received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and worked at the Virginia Beach Sentara Hospital.

His happiest moments were those spent with Rosemarie and their family at their home of 47 years, which remains a center of family life for all.

Robert was predeceased by his son Robert Michael Kennedy. He is survived by his wife Rosemarie, daughters, Mary Ellen Kennedy, Patricia Kennedy, and Colleen Kellogg (Joshua). A source of great joy in Mr. Kennedy’s life were his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Charles (Trey) Connelly, Meghan Dice, Rory Kennedy, Cassidy Connelly, Ronin Dice, James Kellogg, Joseph Kellogg, and Kimber Adkison.

The family will receive friends at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel on Wednesday, November 16, from 6-7:00 p.m. There will be a funeral Mass at St. Nicholas Catholic Church on Thursday, November 17, at 11 a.m. followed by interment with military honors at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery.
