Mabel F. Storey, 93, passed away Nov. 11, 2016. She was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Charleston, S.C. to the late William and Theresa Francis.

She was predeceased by her husband, Smith “Smitty” Allen Storey; a brother, Nathan Hunt; two uncles, Leroy and Alonzo (Trancey) Hunt; and two aunts, Gladys and Lee Hunt.

Mabel was a hair salon owner for over 20 years as well as a paraprofessional with the school system for 15 years. She was a member of St. Luke AME in Manhattan, N.Y., where she served as an usher and with the church pantry. She later became a member of New Hope Church of God in E. Windsor, N.J.

In her leisure time, Mabel enjoyed puzzle books and playing cards.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Veronica Jean Francis and Avonette “Ava” Storey Wedding (George); and a host of relatives and friends.

A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Beach Funeral & Cremation Services, 4456 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach.
