This Veteran’s Day, a non-profit organization called Brides Across America thanked military and first responder brides-to-be for their service by providing free wedding gowns. The initiative, called “Operation Wedding Gown,” has been held twice a year in partnership with bridal salons across the country since 2008, and hopes to lessen the financial burdens associated with wedding planning in the face of deployment, injury and post-traumatic stress.

For the ninth year, Brides Across America teamed up with Norfolk’s House of Maya Bridal Salon to provide up to 100 free gowns to local heroes. Many of the gowns come direct from the designers and retail between $800 and $3,500. (Mariah Pohl/Southside Daily)
