From World War II and Vietnam heroes, to active duty sailors and soldiers, America’s veterans will be honored Friday at the annual Tidewater Veterans Day Parade in Virginia Beach.
The parade, which will begin at 9 a.m. on 16th Street and Atlantic Avenue, will march to the Tidewater Veterans Memorial on 19th Street, ending with a short ceremony and veterans’ lunch at a nearby DoubleTree hotel around noon.
More than 100 groups plan to participate in the march, including marching bands from area high schools and the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Eustis, according to a Virginia Beach news release.
The Virginia Beach Police Department and Sheriff’s Office also plan to march, as well as units and veterans from all four military branches.
The parade has been hosted for more than 30 years by the Hampton Roads Council of Veterans Organizations. This year’s parade will be co-sponsored by the La Societe Des 40 Hommes Et 8 Chevaux, an invitation-only veterans’ organization.
