Deputy Fire Chief Dave Hutcheson has been named interim fire chief of the Virginia Beach Fire Department.
Hutcheson has held a variety of ranks and specialty assignments over the course of his 28-year career, including time on the hazardous materials team and as the department’s fire recruiting officer. He’s also an original member of Virginia Task Force 2, a FEMA urban search and rescue team that deployed him to numerous large-scale events including the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
Hutcheson takes over for Steven Cover, who is now the deputy city manager of public safety.
Hutcheson has a bachelor’s degree in fire safety from Hampton University, and is currently enrolled in the Masters of Homeland Security at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Post Graduate School.
