Students in grades 5 through 12 can attend the Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ “Beach Girls Rock!” empowerment series events.

It begins Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon at Bayside High School. The event’s theme is “It’s All About Me,” featuring keynote speakers and Bayside High School alumnae Judge Tanya Bullock and Wanda Cooper. Bullock serves as a judge on the Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Cooper is an attorney with The Cooper Lawfirm.

“Beach Girls Rock!” events focus on empowering young women through topics like leadership, healthy living and college-career readiness.

Parents can come to the event, too. There, they can attend breakout sessions highlighting school-related subjects and community services, according to a press release.

The series includes two events next year at Kempsville High School Jan. 28 and Cox High School March 25.

“Each year, Beach Girls Rock! workshops have given our students the opportunity to meet and network with their peers and leaders in our community,” said Aaron Spence, VBCPS superintendent in a press release. “As such, these events have given our students new insight, excitement and perspective into potential educational and career paths.”

Students interested in attending can RSVP at their school. For more information, contact LaQuiche Parrott, VBCPS director of opportunity of achievement at  laquiche.parrott@vbschools.com or 757-263-1218.
