The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team (7-11-0, 5-5-0 C-USA) punched its ticket to the 2016 Conference USA Tournament after beating Florida International University (3-11-3, 2-6-2, C-USA) in the regular season finale by a 1-0 score on Sunday afternoon.

The shutout was the second in three days for the Lady Monarchs.

Sunday’s match was originally scheduled for Oct. 9, but was wiped out due to Hurricane Matthew.

The Lady Monarchs got on the scoreboard first in the 39th minute, when they capitalized off a failed FIU clearance to take a 1-0 lead on an own goal. At the half, the Panthers held a narrow 6-5 advantage in shots, as ODU held a 5-3 advantage in corners.

The win gives Old Dominion 15 points in league play, which places them in a tie for seventh with University of Texas El Paso, who holds the tiebreaker over the Lady Monarchs, giving ODU the No. 8 seed in the 2016 C-USA Tournament in Charlotte next week. Old Dominion will play the No. 1 seed on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at a time to be determined. All tournament matches can be viewed live in HD via C-USA TV.

For the match, Old Dominion out-shot Florida International 10-8, while dominating the corner kick count, 9-3. Krista Moisio made one save in her 90 minutes of work in goal for ODU. FIU’s Sophia Trujillo was credited with four saves.
