Should the Tide light rail extend to Virginia Beach Town Center from Newtown Road in Norfolk?

That will be the $243 million question at Tidewater Community College’s Virginia Beach Campus Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The forum will come less than a week before Virginia Beach voters weigh in on the same question, through a nonbinding referendum on Nov. 8. The cost of the project has been estimated at as much as $243.1 million. The TCC event, which is free and open to the public, will be divided into four parts and will be held in the Virginia Beach Student Center, 1700 College Crescent, in room 320.

Brian Solis of Virginia Beach Transportation Planning will be on hand to speak about the light rail for the first 15 minutes. Then local resident Reid Greenmun will speak in opposition to the light rail for 20 minutes. After that, VB Connect members will speak in favor of the light rail. The event will conclude with a 30-minute question-and-answer session.
