Once diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago, Tammy Lea Aldridge Young remained determined and gracious through her journey. She maintained a brave and positive outlook and was always ready to overcome any challenges she faced. Tammy’s courage, grace and determination through this journey are an inspiration to all who were touched by her story. Her life will continue to live in the hearts and minds of her loved ones and her memory will forever strengthen the family she always cherished. She passed peacefully at home on Oct. 19, 2016.

Tammy, known to her friends and family as “Tammy Lea”, was born June 3, 1958 in Frankfort, Ky., to Maurice W.  and Elizabeth J. Aldridge. She was raised in Norfolk, Va. and later moved to Warrenton with her family. After graduating from high school in 1976, Tammy moved to Norfolk, where she attended Old Dominion University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and management.

Filled with compassion and interest in others, Tammy made friends easily and maintained contact with many. Tammy and her husband Charles loved life and were always busy enjoying each other at every given moment. They loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Weekend cruises on the family boat to watch for dolphin were always filled with special moments for Charles and Tammy. During the summer, you could often find them spending quality time together in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Tammy was the general manager of ProTemps Temporary Services for the last 28 years. Work was her passion and she devoted countless hours helping people find employment in the Hampton Roads community.

Tammy will be remembered and forever cherished by her husband Charles E Young II and by her daughter Samantha Jane Conrad, two stepsons Adam R. Young and Alex C. Young and his wife Nicole. She is also loved and will be deeply missed by her mother Elizabeth J. Aldridge and three sisters, Maureen Paris, Jamie Miller and Elizabeth “Beth” Whiteford; her brother in laws: Scott Paris, Tim Miller and Michael Whiteford. Missing her also will be a niece Lyndsay and nephew Joshua. She will also be missed tremendously by close friends and business colleagues that have made her life as fulfilling as anyone could ask.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 pm, with a celebration of Tammy’s life Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Family Choice Funeral Home, 5401 Indian River Rd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23464.
