Mildred Kurtz Roberson, 96, passed away peacefully on Oct. 5, 2016, at Sentara Hospice House, Virginia Beach.
Millie was born to the late Wilhelm and Anna Kurtz on March 17, 1920, in Luverne, Minn. She is predeceased by two sisters; Erna Toftland, and Dorthea Huiskies, and brother, Bernard Kurtz.
She was born and raised on a farm. She left home at age 17 and moved to San Diego to begin her life’s journey. She met and married the love of her life, the late W. J. Roberson, in San Diego, Calif.
Left to cherish her memory are son, Robert Roberson and wife Debbie, three grandchildren Sean Roberson (Kay), Megan Meyers (Chris), and Colin Roberson (Julia), three great grandchildren Camilia, Charlotte, and Seamus, and a large number of nieces and nephews in Minnesota and North Carolina.
Millie was a proud Navy wife and enjoyed living in many locations during that time. She and John lived in Norfolk and she retired from Navy Exchange at the age of 84. Her best and final job was helping care for her three great-grandchildren or, in her words, “the babies.”
She had resided at Sentara Village assisted living for the last three years and had made many friends during her stay. Her favorite activity was playing Bingo twice a week and getting her manicures. She was an avid fan of the Washington Nationals and rarely missed watching the games on TV.
Millie’s quick wit, sense of humor and wisdom will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Eastern Shore Episcopal Chapel, 2020 Laskin Rd., Virginia Beach, Va. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to the Sentara Hospice House, Virginia Beach or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts.
