Gertrude Gussoff Stavin passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Oct. 5, 2016, three months after her beloved husband of 73 years, Irwin.
She was the daughter of David and Minnie Gussoff and was born on Aug. 15, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy (Chuck) Goldman and Richard (Dea) Stavin; grandchildren, David Goldman, Laura (Marc) Wingett, Danielle Stavin, Justin Stavin, and great-grandsons, Harrison and Brendan Wingett.
Gertrude’s family was her pride and joy. She was an expert knitter who knit beautiful dresses for her daughter and sweaters for her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, played golf and enjoyed doing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle with Irwin. Gertrude and Irwin loved to dance and were known as “the dancers.” Although dementia stole much of her abilities, she knew her family until the end.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers and others who provided help and support through difficult times; Ruth and Adam and their loving caregivers at Ruth’s Care, friends Sheila and Fred, Kindred Hospice’s Kathy and Diane, Sentara Rosemont Nursing Center and Hospice for their compassion and excellent care of our mother in her final days, Christina Boyd of Care Connect for her invaluable guidance and support, and Rosario, who is a special friend to our family.
In lieu of flowers, our family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Shiva will be Monday night 6-8 p.m., minyan at 7 p.m. at the home of Dottie & Chuck Goldman.
