NORFOLK – Betty Forgey Shaw, died Oct. 3, 2016 surrounded by her family.
She was born Feb. 21, 1924 in Elkhart, Ind. the daughter of the late Martha Miller Forgey and Ralph E. Forgey. The family moved to Norfolk, Va. in 1936. She was a graduate of Maury High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, George “Buck” Shaw Jr. and her brother, Richard Forgey. She moved to Virginia Beach in 1981 and was a volunteer at Virginia Beach Sentara Hospital for 23 years. She was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, Cary A. Shaw and his wife, Kerrie S. Shaw of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Barbara S. Koger and her husband, David L. Koger of Danbury, Conn.; three grandchildren, Colin R. Shaw of Chesapeake; Leigh A Koger and her finance, Randy Stone of New Milford, Conn.; and Paul R. Koger and his wife, Lindsey Koger, who is serving his country in the U.S. Air Force.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian of Virginia Beach. A private burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
