VIRGINIA BEACH – Shirley Spence Oglethorpe, 85, of the 400 block of Cedar Lane, Virginia Beach, Va., went to be with the Lord on Oct. 1, 2016. She passed peacefully at home with family. She devoted her life to creating a loving home for her husband, children, pets and wildlife. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her son, Steven Oglethorpe of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Paige Shriver of Marathon, Fla.; stepdaughter, Brenda Lindsay of Payson, Ariz.; and daughters-in-law, Marilyn King and Terri Garand. She was a beloved “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, James B. Oglethorpe.
A celebration of life service will be held at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. Graveside service will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Va.
