Your family’s story could help the shelter win up to $100,000 in grant money through the Holiday Wishes contest.

The Petco Foundation, in partnership with Petco, is granting more than $750,000 in Holiday Wishes this year to animal welfare organizations like the Virginia Beach SPCA, according to a news release.

Any money the Virginia Beach SPCA might win would be used toward the agency’s adoption program, including medical care for shelter animals, said agency Vice President and CFO Lacy Kuller.

The Virginia Beach SPCA finds homes for more than 3,500 homeless pets every year, and is able to take care of about 530 animals at a time through the shelter and foster-care system, Kuller said.

“The care that we spend on the animals in the care at the shelter is quite expensive,” Kuller said. The contest “is a great way to take those stories and turn them into funds to find more animals homes.”

Enter any furry friend adopted from the Virginia Beach SPCA by writing up to a 500-word submission about how the animal has changed your life. Pictures and videos are welcome illustrations!

Entries are due by Oct. 15 and winners will be announced in December. People who submit winning entries will get a $1,000 gift card to spoil their precious pet.
