Margrett G. Matthews, 77, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2016 in Windsor, Va.
Margrett was born in Georgia to the late Thomas and Allie Grimes. She was a school bus driver for the City of Virginia Beach for over 23 years. Known as “Mom” to many, she surrounded herself with children and ran the Indian Lakes Recreation Center game room for many years. She was a lover of birds, roller skating, gardening and crocheting.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 57 years, Leonard “Spider” Matthews; sons, Bruce E. Paul (Betty), Leonard S. Matthews, Jr. (LeeAnn), Robert M. Matthews (Susan) and David B. Matthews (Tiffany); daughter, Paula Matthews Cartwright (Dennis); sister, Janet Leech; grandchildren, Nicholas Overbay, Christy Filipak and Brooke Matthews, and four great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk with interment following in the Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to a local dementia charity.
