Josephine E. (Malicki) Leavens, 92, passed away on Sept. 13, 2016, peacefully in her home with her family. She was from New Britain, Conn.
In 1963 she and her late husband, Lewis P. Leavens moved to Norfolk, Va., where she was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She resided with her daughter and family for the last seventeen years in Virginia Beach, where she was a parishioner of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, John Sr. and Nellie Malicki; brothers, Joseph Malicki and John Malicki Jr; husband of 44 years, Lewis P. Leavens; and four-legged grandpuppy, Bubby.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie A. Leavens Dawson; son-in-law, Ken Dawson; granddaughters, Tiffany and Kristen Dawson; brother and his wife, Edward Sr. and Angie Malicki; sister and her husband, Anne and John Dobrzanski; and nieces and nephews.
Known to many as Granny, Jo will continue to live through the love and many cherished memories we have of her. She always had kind words for everyone and her smile and wave could brighten anyone’s day.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, from 7-8:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, with Rev. Robert J. Cole as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Heart Association.
