Albert George Rudis, 88, unexpectedly passed away on Sept. 10, 2016. Born in Mahanoy City, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert and Margaret Rudis. He was preceded in death by a son, Albert S. Rudis; and grandson, Daniel R. Waterfield Jr.
After retiring with 22 years in the U.S. Navy, he then retired from the fire department at Fort Story.
He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, St. Matthew’s Men’s Club and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as a Grand Knight. He was a member of Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and recently earned his 10,000-hour certificate.
Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Theresa Rudis; daughters, Sandra Rudis and Theresa Pitman and her husband, James; sons, Tom Rudis and John Rudis and his wife, Brooke; grandchildren, Beth, Luke, Vincent, T.J., Mallory, Alexa, Colby, and Collin; and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, Madison, Makaylah, Braedon, Joseph, and Makenna.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
