At the young age of 19, Dominiq Amir Castillo Porterfield of Virginia Beach, Va. passed away on Sept. 3, 2016, due to a tragic accident while wakeboarding in Texas.
Dominiq was born to Lucas Alexander Castillo and Amy Elizabeth Porterfield Lagasse on Nov. 22, 1996, in Warrenton, Va. He was a 2014 graduate of the Ocean Lakes High School Math & Science Academy in Virginia Beach. He was attending his junior year at the University of Texas at San Antonio working towards a business management degree.
Dominiq is survived by his parents, Lucas and Amy; stepfather, Joshua Lagasse; great-grandmother, Aida Celeste Jerez; great- grandfather, Curtis H. Porterfield; grandparents, Lucas E. Castillo, Aida Josefina Pimentel, Dale and Eileen Porterfield, Faith and Vincent Marra; uncles, Juan Carlos Castillo, Michael Porterfield, Benjamin Porterfield, David Porterfield, Benjamin Lagasse, Daniel Lagasse; and many aunts, cousins and friends.
Dominiq loved the Lord and was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, grandson and friend. He was baptized on May 29, 2016, and was a member of the Norfolk Christadelphian Chapel. He enjoyed baseball, hockey, sand soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf and flag football. He was a member of the UTSA Velox Club Ultimate Frisbee.
Dominiq was a loving son and great friend and lived life to the fullest. His smile was contagious and he lived by the quote by Steve Maraboli, “It only takes a split second to smile and forget, yet to someone that needed it, it can last a lifetime.”
Services in San Antonio were held on Sept. 8, 2016, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, Texas. Visitation was from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 4:00 p.m.
Services in Virginia will be held on Sept. 10, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 8464 Tidewater Dr., Norfolk, Va. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon with the funeral service starting immediately at noon. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 in Bright View Cemetery, Warrenton, Va.
