The Justice Department has moved to dismiss the charges against former Gov. Robert F. McDonnell and his wife Maureen McDonnell, according to a release.

“After carefully considering the Supreme Court’s recent decision and the principles of federal prosecution, we have made the decision not to pursue the case further,” the release said.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alexandria did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
