Albert Floyd Helms Jr., 74, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 at his home in Virginia Beach. He was born in Portsmouth, Va. on June 29, 1942. Albert is preceded in death by his father, Albert Floyd Helms Sr. and his wife, Elsie; and his mother, Bessie Irene Fisher and her husband, Don.
Albert is survived by Phyllis Ann Helms, his best friend and wife of 38 years; his sister, Bonnell Langhorne of Floyd, Va.; his sister, Muriel Hancock of Norfolk; his four children, Kathy Batrouny, Brian Helms, Mary Pittman and Lloyd Pittman; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and dear neighbors and friends.
Albert dedicated his life to providing for his family through a diverse career starting as an accountant with Burrus, Cootes and Burrus. He went on to own and operate two small businesses and recently retired from Cherry Bekaert LLP as a senior accountant. He was planning to enjoy his retirement with his wife in the mountains of southwest Virginia at the Helms Hideaway that he had lovingly renovated.
