William Etheridge Chaplain, 53, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 in Bethesda, Maryland after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Billy was a lifelong resident of Pungo, Va. and a member of Charity United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Wright Chaplain. He was retired from the Virginia Beach Police Department and later took over the family business of commercial and residential rental properties and development. He was the owner and operator of Pleasant Ridge Stables. Billy was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother and friend who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife and soulmate of 23 years, Lisa Michelle Chaplain; six children, William Cody Chaplain and his wife, Candice, Sarah Elizabeth Chaplain, Joshua James Chaplain, Corey Ryan Chaplain, Alexis Lauren Chaplain and Brianna Bryce Chaplain, all of Virginia Beach; his mother, Margaret Virginia Boykin of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a granddaughter, Caydence Jane Chaplain; brother, Michael Wright Chaplain of Virginia Beach; his father- and mother-in-law, James R. Lopretto and Kathleen M. Lopretto; brother- and sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 at Charity United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
