David Abraham Benabou, 52, of Virginia Beach, passed into eternity on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016. Born in New York City, David was raised in Virginia Beach by his grandmother, Odette Hastey, to be the witty, fun-loving and devoted husband, brother and friend we all came to love.
Bar mitzvahed at Temple Emanuel Synagogue, later David came to know the Lord, becoming a Messianic Jew.
David enjoyed his career as an innovative chef who lent his talent to some of the best local restaurants.
David and his wife Amy were “madly in love” for 25 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Derek Benabou and Aaron Hall; sister-in-law Patty Ver Schneider and her husband Tom; nephews, Will, Mark and Andrew (Deanna) Ver Schneider; uncle, Dick Kraus; cousins, Liz, Matthew, Naomi, and Douglas Kraus; and countless cherished friends. David will also be sorely missed by his beloved canine companions Enzo and Daisy Mae.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Bety Hall.
Visitation for David will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at Altmeyer Funeral Homes -Southside Chapel, 5792 Greenwich Rd. in Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Altmeyer Funeral Homes. Procession to Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, will follow the funeral service.
