James ‘Jimmy’ Richard George Sr., 80, was once an oceanfront lifeguard

James “Jimmy” Richard George Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 after a long illness.

Jimmy was born in Nashville, Tenn., the son of the late Iby and Ozelle George. After moving to Virginia Beach, Jimmy took on the task of being a lifeguard at the oceanfront. He was an interesting man who was in a category of his own. His quick wit ensured that he never met a stranger. In 1957, Jimmy married his sweetheart, Patricia. He later did HVAC work for civil service.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother, Bill George and his sister, Juanita Gardner. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Patricia S. George; adoring children, Robynne Cacace (Pat); Connie Ponder (Dale) and Rick George (Melissa); 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert George (Beverly); a sister, Elsie Lusson and a legion of extended family and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Maestas Chapel, 1801 Baltic Ave. in Virginia Beach.
